Our lions

As the name implies, Seaview Lion Park’s main attraction is the lions. At present, the lion population is approximately 55, of which nearly 25 are sub-adults and cubs.

All the lion cubs born at the Park are hand-reared and for the small fee of R60.00, may be handled by the public. Please note we only allow handlings once the cubs are at least six-weeks-old.

Our healthy, adorable cubs continue to receive many accolades. They are inoculated against all known feline diseases and rabies, and are free of Feline AIDS and TB. All the cubs are micro-chipped.

When lions are sold, permits are obtained from the department of Economic Development and Environmental Affairs, however earlier this year we made a decision to ask for a signed affidavit, from any prospective buyer, that the lions being purchased are for breeding purposes. If this is not forthcoming, we will not sell the lions and the lions will remain at the Park.

In 2011, it is our plan to utilise 20ha (approx 50 acres) of presently unused land for the purpose of building a healthy pride of lions which we hope can eventually be released into the wild.  The area will be fenced and we will build a hide from where staff and volunteers will be able to monitor the lions.

The White Lions

14 white lions have been successfully bred in the park since 2003 and they can all be seen at the Park. The aim of the Park’s continued breeding programme is to create a larger gene pool, from which to breed healthy white lions and to conserve this rare species.
